Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineer: Biomedical Devices & Robotics (Part-Time and Full-Time available)
\n$50–$75/hour | Remote within the United States
\nGuanaco Labs LLC is seeking an engineer with strong mechanical design skills and hands-on project experience to help develop a compact automated blood collection and transfusion system for austere, prehospital, and emergency environments.
\nYou will help turn system requirements into CAD assemblies, component selections, and documented engineering decisions. The work combines mechanisms, pumps, fluid handling, sensors, and electromechanical integration, with a direct connection to an important medical need.
\nThis role is well suited to a mechanical or mechatronics engineer who enjoys figuring out how physical systems work and how to make them practical to build. Strong senior undergraduate and graduate students with substantial engineering projects are also encouraged to apply.
\nWhat you’ll work on
\nYour primary focus will be mechanical and electromechanical design for the Phase I conceptual design and feasibility effort. Working with our engineering lead and multidisciplinary team, you will:
\nDepending on your strengths, you may also contribute to electrical schematics, embedded hardware integration, simulation, or safety-interlock design.
\nPhase I emphasizes design, analysis, and feasibility. If Phase II funding is awarded, the program is expected to move into physical prototype fabrication, integration, and testing.
\nWhat makes someone a strong fit
\nWe are looking for evidence that you can take a defined engineering problem, investigate options, develop a solution, and explain your decisions.
\nYou should bring:
\nRelevant experience may come from employment, internships, research, senior design, robotics competitions, or independent projects. We care about the depth of your contribution and the quality of your reasoning.
\nHelpful additional experience
\nExperience with any of the following would be valuable:
\nWe use Fusion 360 for mechanical CAD and KiCad for electrical design. Experience with comparable tools is welcome. AI/ML experience is optional.
\nHow we work
\nYou will own defined design tasks and bring recommendations to the team for review. We value initiative, careful reasoning, and early communication about uncertainty. System architecture, interfaces, and safety-related decisions will be reviewed with the engineering team.
